President - Bill Michalopulos

Bill has participated in the game of soccer, as a player, coach, and club official for over 40 years. He was a provincial (six years), university, top amateur and semi-professional player (Switzerland). A holder of the Canadian National Children’s and Provincial B coaching licenses, he has successfully coached girls and boys competitive youth teams in Ottawa (ERSL/OCSL), as well as the provincial level (OYSL), for over 20 years. During this period, his teams achieved multiple league and tournament championships, while many players that he has coached have gone on to succeed at the university level or to be selected for Canadian National Youth programs and teams.

Bill is one of the primary architects in the conception and genesis of the Ottawa South United (OSU) soccer club, as well as being the "founding" President of OSU. He holds Commerce (Honours) and Arts Degrees, and is originally from Western Canada.

With a professional business background in private and public corporations, in both domestic and international settings, Bill worked as a senior executive at a major crown corporation in Ottawa. Upon his return to Canada from Switzerland, he and his spouse Greta settled in Manotick where their two daughters were raised. In 2009, Bill was awarded the Investors Group Outstanding Volunteer Award for his lifetime achievements in soccer by the Ontario Soccer Association (OSA).


Vice President - Duncan Campbell 

A founding member of OSU, Duncan Campbell has serviced the ORSA - OSU soccer organization for the past 25 years. Over that time, Duncan has been a board member for 8 years, and coached for 32 team/seasons. Duncan has played soccer all of his life, and currently plays for the OSU OT2 team. Duncan holds a Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia, where he majored in Finance and Computer Science. In 1975, he moved from Vancouver to Ottawa and became a Chartered Accountant with Ernst & Young. Through his business career, he has worked for a number of high tech companies in Ottawa, most notably Mitel, where he was CFO/Corporate Controller, for 10 years. For the past 15 years he's been a founder/principal in Multiview Inc., a local financial software company.


Treasurer - Stephen Campbell 

A founding member of OSU, Stephen is a retired Chartered Accountant and Chartered Financial Analyst. He is a former CFO of the Canadian Medical Protective Association (retired in 2012), and has been a Manotick resident since 1984.  Stephen's association with local soccer has been a long one, he first coached with Osgoode Rideau Soccer Association in 1987 (Boys U16), then coached a total of 34 house league teams from 1990 - 2017. He volunteered as the OSRA Registrar and Board Member, and has been an OSU Board Member from 2003 - 2022, and OSU Treasurer from 2017 - 2022.

 


 

 

Secretary - Ashley Barrett

Ashley grew up playing for OSU and went on to play for the Queen's University varsity team during her four years there, while she earned her Economics degree. She has coached and led programs for OSU and has been a Board member since 2015.

Ashley has over 14 years of experience in the purchasing field through working for a major Crown Corportation, where she has grown progressively from an entry level buyer position to management.

Ashley lives in Barrhaven, is a country music fan and enjoys running.


Director at Large - Rene Braendli 

Rene is a founding member of the Ottawa South United Soccer Club. He has served on Soccer Boards in various capacities since 1980. In the early 80’s he established the Men’s House League, Men’s Competitive and Girls Recreation Programs in Barrhaven. He was one of the driving forces in establishing the Women’s Recreation Program and the Girls Competitive Program.

As a coach, Rene has guided teams to a number of Provincial Championships, a USA Cup title and many Tournament, Club and League titles. Travels with teams took him to Washington, Florida, New York, Philadelphia, London England and Gothenburg Sweden. Many of the players he coached have been selected to Provincial and National Team Programs and have enjoyed successful University careers.

Rene was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Government of Canada in recognition of contributions to the community, the Distinguished Service in Sports and Recreation by the City of Nepean, the Queens Golden Jubilee Medal, and the Meritorious Service Award by the Ontario Soccer Association. In 2021, Rene was inducted into the Nepean Sports Wall of Fame.

Rene is an Accountant who lectured at Algonquin College over a 10 year period and held a management position in the Public Service prior to his retirement.


 

Director at Large - Jane Hext

Jane has been actively involved with OSU since 2006, in both recreational and competitive programs, as a parent, manager and coordinator. Jane is a lifetime learner, having completed a Bachelor of Science from the University of Guelph and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Ottawa and is currently working towards her Master's in Data Science from Northwestern University. Jane has specialized expertise in data analytics and currently holds a Research Manager position at Adobe, where she has worked for the past 17+ years.

Director at Large - Pina Downey

Pina Downey is a professional engineer with nearly 25 years of experience spanning the fields of engineering & operations, finance, program management and strategy. 

Pina began her career as an engineer at DuPoint Canada in Kingston, Ontario where she managed the plant operation of material production. Currently, Pina is an executive at a major crown corporation in which she has held progressively responsible roles in finance, engineering and strategy.

Pina earned an engineering degree and Masters of Business Administration (Magna Cum Laude) both from Queen's University.  Pina was born and raised in Ottawa and now lives in Manotick. She is married with three children, all of which have been part of the OSU family for most of their lives.

 


Director at Large - Chris Hilliard

Chris Hilliard is currently the Broker/Owner of All/Pro Real Estate Ltd. Brokerage. Chris is a third generation broker with almost 17 years experience in the Ottawa area. He has extensive knowledge of the real estate market and residential growth occurring in the South Ottawa, Nepean, Manotick and Osgoode-Rideau areas.

Chris grew up in Manotick and is passionate about soccer. As a youth player he played competitively for Osgoode Rideau Soccer Association, one of the two predecessor clubs which merged with South Nepean United for form Ottawa South United (OSU) in 2003. He continues to play to this day, while his youngest daughter also plays for OSU.

Chris graduated from the Ontario Real Estate College in 2003 and is certified in commercial real estate and invesments, while repeatedly being a top producer in the Ottawa market.
